Rigs

Minnow Rig

Squashy and stretchy fun for the whole family

minnowRigPreview

Want a rig that squashes and stretches more than your pot belly? You’ve got a rig right here that does that! Featuring the actual rig used in my graduate film, it’s the Minnow character!

(Now say that out loud, in a voice as if you’re introducing the Oscars’ winner of the year.)

(abxPicker compatible)

Requirements:

Maya 2013 SP2 (or higher)

djx poseReader plugins (re-compiled from Michael Comet’s original)

Sharky Rig

Big, bad, blendshapes

sharkyRigPreview

Miss the good old days of sharks on bikes? Feel like you can’t get enough of watching misguided, inaccurate documentaries on them and want to make your own that depicts them in the manner that they deserve to be: anthropomorphic beings with grossly oversized biceps?

Yeah, me neither. But if you want to see some blendshape corrective sculpting at work, have a go at this!

Jelly Rig

A deceptively simple rig

Much like the actual character, this rig appears simple at first glance, but holds a lot of cool helper features.

(abxPicker compatible. In fact, strongly recommended in this case due to ease of working with the tentacle controls.)

Male Humanoid Rig

The average Joe, redefined.

xsiManRigPreview

A generic humanoid rig. Features some cool stuff, including skin sliding and pose space deformation all done through ICE. The main biped rig itself was my first experiment in doing an autorigger in XSI, lots of it was based off Jeremie Passerin’s excellent tutorial. Facial rig was all ICE, and the facial rig blendshapes are split procedurally through ICE as well. Corrective blendshapes included; on top of procedural skin sliding deformation – all absolutely free!

(Really, a tech test and deformations practice more than anything else. But still cool.)

For: XSI 2013 SP1

Tools

ftrack, now available for 3ds max

Finally, there's a viable alternative to Shotgun.

As part of my work at Frostburn Studios, I was tasked to write integration for ftrack, a production management and asset tracking solution, into our studio’s pipeline, which is primarily 3ds max-based. As ftrack does not have any native integration or plugin for 3ds max, this involved writing a couple of applications and an entire custom set of plugins, libraries and hooks in order for it to work with our studio’s unique needs.

Mari Tools

Complementing the Mari Extensions Pack

Mari Tools is a suite of tools that I have been writing for the Foundry’s Mari 3D painting DCC. I wrote it after taking a look at the Mari Extensions Pack and deciding that the existing architecture of the toolkit made it very difficult for people to submit improvements, and wanted to make a solution that would be more Python-ic in nature.

FBX Split Exporter

Manage animations from Maya to your game engine, easily

fbxtool3Wish that the 2015 LT Game Export tool was available in some way or form in older versions of Maya? Wish that you could manage different animations in a single scene much more easily? Want a non rig-specific method of exporting your animations and rigs to game engines?

Really, just click and have a look.

Quick Camera FBX Exporter

For game engines that don't support FBX cameras

camfbxexporterOriginally written for allowing animators to export camera movement from Maya to Unity 3D, this tool will take a selected camera and generate a simple joint rig, allowing you to use its animated transforms within game engines that may not support actual cameras in the FBX standard.

ZScript Syntax Definition

for Sublime Text 3

A syntax defintion for Pixologic ZBrush’s ZScript scripting language. Supports auto-completions and syntax highlighting.

I know, I’m amazed too. /s
