A Fresh Look

To start off what feels, strangely, nothing at all like a new life.

It’s been more than half a year since I last worried about tanks and treads, and as one might expect, there are quite a few updates that have transpired since I last bothered to update this section of the Internet. For starters, the theme has changed.

Ok, maybe I am d...

But who says dying means the end of all things? As Left4Dead proves, this is not the case.

In truth, I’ve been playing a little too much, eating a little too often, running and exercising too little, and it’s resulted in predictable changes in my lifestyle: I’m now a slob.

A slob who may still be playing Team Fortress 2 and more recently, Left4Dead with reckless abandon, but still a slob. I’d normally make the obligatory ‘content’ post which would mostly comprise of several photographs taken recently, but I’ve come to realize that it’s a wasted endeavour, seeing as it’d be much more productive to post them on forums or elsewhere and actually get some constructive feedback, rather than enshrine them on some meaningless server for all time.

I’m not de...

So I was actually planning to make this post quite a while back, but other matters contrived to get in my way, namely the matter of my Bionix course, which was supposed to have lasted another 2 – 3 weeks. Instead, it is now, as you say, cut short thanks to my meticulous planning, which (for obvious reasons) I shall not go into detail here.

Suffice to say, I’m out of the course, and the past 2 weeks back at my former depot have been, well, normal, I guess. What else is there to say?

I already posted a few of my initial grabs on Flickr, if you’ve actually kept up with this. I’m personally disappointed with most of the things I did during the race, especially with regard to my preparation (my battery actually died out on the second night, what the fuck) and my lack of enthusiasm with regard to thinking up new techniques (especially after a couple of hours) but overall I think I managed to get a pretty decent collection of photos to demonstrate my prowness at panning.

Get ready

It has a pretty small table footprint, too.

It has a pretty small table footprint, too.

For the next battle. It has arrived.

Play-asia recently had a 25% off everything (in-stock, that is) sale for the past week or so, and while scanning through the catalogs, I noticed a real nice steal for a Mayflash fighting stick. Shitty parts, shitty feel, but wonderful price. I dallied, though, and put off the purchase to the morrow.

On the morrow, such a purchase would no longer be possible. Fie! My flames stoked, I renewed the search for good deals and extravagant purchases. 6 days on, a modestly-sized parcel arrives at my front door, beckoning.

Now, I do seem to be spending quite a bit of dough on seemingly needless items as of late: first was the PS3 and the 24-inch to go with it (not to mention the starter library of titles), then came another controller just in case I ever managed to get along with another human being, and now this.

As such, I feel a little backstory is necessary.

Of belts and gis

Yoko GeriSome would say that I perhaps have an unhealthy fascination with such apparel. It is apparent, especially if you look at my various doodles (and doodads) around my hard drive, my desktop, my tabletop and even my sketchbook.

I say, though, that the gi, though overused, is absolutely perfect for people who have little to no knowledge of how to best portray the human body, and instead opt to hide it beneath swaths of cotton fibre. All while making your character automatically look badass.

All this, of course, at the cost of making your masterpiece look like yet another of those Ryu-inspired deviations.

This is going to...

A study in primary colour contrasts.I can tell.

Around 2 weeks ago, Father’s Day passed us by. The preceding Friday saw me patrolling the giant shithole that is also known as Sungei Gedong, unenviably assigned to perform the duties of a guard, aimlessly meandering around a military compound at the behest of mindless protocols.

Such is the life of a soldier.

I didn’t get anything for my dad this time, not even making one of my customary oops-I-forgot-here-let-me-cook-something-in-Photoshop-real-quick paintings as per my custom in advance. Why, you ask? Well, I could bullshit about being too tired to do one, too busy, too lazy, but truth be told, I just couldn’t find any inspiration about what to do at all.
