It’s pretty nice. Though it means I have to update my front page soon to reflect my new change of address.
I’ve pretty much settled in about as well as I possibly can, with Comcast (fuck them, by the way. Seriously, which ISP even still practices bandwidth limits on all their subscription plans?) providing me with the means to type this current post, and my mom/dad bumbling around at every step of the way.
The endless questions about whether I’ll be able to cope does get slightly tiresome, though. If I didn’t think I could handle it, why the fuck would I have flown across the world, leaving my 3 screens, my rig, my wheel/pedals set, my games, my entire Sonic the Hedgehog comic collection behind? It’s like cutting your goddamn foot off and sticking it up your arse in order to have someone tell you that you did a good job. Do you really wonder about whether that was a good idea only after you realize you have a permanent walking problem?
Anyway, I met a couple of really nice families through a vague contact of my mom’s (again), which was nice. One of them actually picked us up from the airport and took us around the place, helping me find an apartment, furniture, groceries, the whole shebang; it was completely unexpected and I am pretty much in awe of how much time she actually spent enduring my dysfunctional collection of sub-par human beings that are my family.
She even got us invited to a barbeque that a friend of hers was hosting! I don’t know about most people, but free chicken wings for someone you barely even know is pretty much a lasting gesture of friendship in my book. Since I’m not exactly a people person, here’s hoping that they don’t hate me too badly. I did spend some time with their kids, which I think would probably help my part of the bargain (since I had to do some things which I had thought were behind me after helping out the kids during my Community Involvement Project back in school).
The new apartment’s pretty ginormous, though, weighing in at 670 square feet. For reference, I pretty much lived out of a room which was around 400 square feet back in Singapore, and I considered it pretty big. I don’t even think I’ll be using the bedroom much, since my mom insisted on buying an additional sofa bed; I generally don’t like sleeping on beds. One bad thing about the floor: it’s carpeted, so cleaning it is a bitch, and I have to be a lot more careful about spills.
And on top of all this, I still have the summer sketchbook assignment from DigiPen that I have to complete. Which I shall get back to presently. After, at least, making a final statement:
For all the trouble I’ve gone through, most people would say the chance to study at DigiPen is worth it. But for me, when I balance the weights, somehow, the first clouds of doubt are starting to form over the rainbows and sunshine.
Or maybe it’s just the rain. The sky does that quite a lot here, even in summer.
