In the midst of uncertain times

I somehow still seem to exist among the very fabric of the universe that continues to operate, even I as tend towards the other end of the spectrum.

I’m currently experiencing not a writer’s block, as one might be inclined to think, but rather, a coder’s block, defined as which (by me) to be that of an inoculate attitude towards anything unproductive, which is to say, I haven’t gotten around to coding the site up, and without that, so goes the motivation to keep it updated.

I’ve been trying, for the past few months, to get my ass together in order to ensure that what may prove to be the turning point in my life (whatever’s left of it, anyway) doesn’t go unrecorded in its excruciating detail. I’ve been holding off on updates since then. Unfortunately, since a few months have slid by with no sign of such achievements forthcoming, I suppose that I’ll have to start playing catch-up with the updates.

I’ve been sketching around with the tablet, among doing other illustrative work, and come up with a whole lot of new crazy ideas to throw around my desk, for games and comics alike in my absence. But let’s start with something a little different; a little recent. Then I can get back to having to recall painful memories.

If you recall any of my more coherent posts at all, you’d probably have noticed that most, if not all of my work so far has been digitally-based, that is to say, I’m not one who usually works without the Undo function close to my fingers. So you may be surprised at the following:

Stencil

Yes, that is my tablet PC, taken with my D50 without any Photoshop-pery. Sometimes I just love photography without whoring post-processing effects. As you can probably tell (if you view the larger size image), it’s my first stencil, and the end result shows how my inexperience practically glares at the viewer: Got myself a sheet of transparency (acetone sheet, whatever) and cut out the design with my good old Swiss. (I don’t have an X-acto.) Then I proceeded to wrap my precious tablet pc in paper and masking tape before going all nuts with 5 coats of paint, as evenly spread out as I could.

I know, next time I’ll use a thicker stencil so the frilly edges don’t appear (though if plastic transparency wasn’t good enough, I have no idea what kind of material I should be looking at that doesn’t burn my wallet too brightly, though contact paper or spray adhesive sounds like a good idea) and next time I’ll be more precise with my knife, and next time I won’t use such a weird stencil design with so many thin and intricate parts. (I had a bitch of a time cutting the damn thing out.)

And lastly, I actually wanted to do the wings in silver, but I was afraid of the lack of contrast, because the “sparkling silver” spraypaint that I got, frankly speaking, seemed more like the colour of fucking dirt. And for those who actually care, one wing belongs to Sephiroth, and the other belongs to Genesis.

Yes, I actually am rather a fan of RPGs in general, and Final Fantasy just so happens to be ranked quite high in my list of favourites.

On a related, and conclusive note, check out my new offering at my Zazzle store. That was originally the stencil I wanted to use for the tablet, but, as stated above, it got way too complicated too fast. And it won the Today’s Best Award from Zazzle, too, which is kind of weird, considering it’s the only shirt I’ve actually submitted in quite a while.

And I did not just blatantly endorse self-endorsement right there. Not at all.
