This occasion is, indeed.
I have only just bid farewell to my faithful host of 2 and a half years, Sitesled.com, in favour of my new host and domain, which, if you managed to find this post, (since all the links on the site are now broken) you’d probably know by now. I’ve been wanting to do this for a long time now, I’ve even mentioned it here a couple of times, but today! Today is the day my new debit card comes into play.
In case you didn’t know, it’s Dreamhost.
I was actually considering going with HonestNetworks (A spin-off of Sitesled), but being the fickle, unhinged (and some would attest deranged) personality that I am, I chose the plan with slightly better value. I must comment on Sitesled’s services here, though: for a free host, they provide remarkable services. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for some free space, like I was not so long ago, to host their bits.
With this shift, of course, new possibilities abound before my eyes. The advent of PHP and MySQL has arrived, never mind the fact that I have, at best, a rudimentary grasp of either language. I will say this, though; expect some open-source initiatives to begin very shortly.
No, not just WordPress, although I’ll probably be using that to manage the site from now on. Other stuff.
But it’ll all have to wait until after my exams, sadly. Cursed I am with the never-ending barrages that seem to never end.
Yes, I’m tired and delirious from the experience, and this post has suffered the consequences of such a state. But at least I now have my own space to retreat to on the Internet when such troubles arise.
For the next year, anyway. Here’s to a year of online destruction.
